Meghalaya will conduct inspection for construction of stadium for the National Games 2022 before the ensuing Christmas, construction of which is scheduled to begin by early next year.
A decision to this effect was taken on Monday when it was agreed that officials of the State Government and those from the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment would jointly inspect the proposed site for the construction of a stadium for the National Games 2022 at Mawdiangdiang soon.

The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by State Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma which reviewed the state’s preparations for the national games.
In the meeting, Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Banteidor Lyngdoh informed that the joint inspection with the officials of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment would be conducted before Christmas.
Lyngdoh also said that the Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment has recently sanctioned Rs 350 crore for the construction of the state of the art international stadium for the National Games at Mawdiangdiang under the New Shillong Township.

According to the minister, construction work is expected to begin from January next year.
During the meeting, a presentation pertaining to the preparation for the National Games was made by the State Sports Department.
