Six journalists of Sikkim have been awarded for their contributions towards the society by the Media Federation of India (MFI) during the conferment of ‘Sikkim Media Awards 2018’ at Janta Bhawan in Gangtok on Saturday.
On the occasion, Rebyna Rana of Summit Times, Jagannath Dahal of Samay Dainik, Amber Gurung of Himalaya Darpan, Samir Hang Subba of Sikkim Express, Madhu Sharma of Hamro Prajashakti and KK Chettri of Nayuma Samachar were awarded with shawl, mementos and certificate.

The programme was chaired by the Chairman of Sikkim Commission for Backward Classes, T N Sharma as the chief guest and was accompanied by former Director of PIB Gangtok, CK Dorjee and MFI national president, Arun Sharma as the guests of honour.
On the occasion, MFI national president has announced Samay Dainik editor, Dilli Ram Dulal as the president of MFI Sikkim.
He also announced the accident insurance of Rs one lakh for working journalists of Sikkim from MFI.

He mentioned that MFI was established in year 2006 has its units in 22 states of the country and Sikkim was the 23rd State.
He mentioned that MFI has been established to work for the development of journalism and in the interest of journalists.
In his address, the chief guest mentioned that journalism was a challenging profession and assured to place the issue of providing pension to journalists of Sikkim to the government.
He also mentioned that Sikkim has not been getting proper place in the national media. Sharma stated that Sikkim has not recorded any communal and religious riots so far.
He mentioned that the inclusive policy of the State was an example for the nation.
Likewise, former PIB Director Dorjee congratulated all awardees and encouraged them to work continuously for the betterment of the society.
The programme was also addressed by the president of Press Club of Sikkim, Joseph Lepcha, newly appointed MFI Sikkim president, D R Dulal and one of the awardees, K K Chettri.
