A massive protest rally was taken out at Tamulpur in Baksa district against molestation, gambling, running of illegal wine shop and anti-social activities in the area.

The rally was jointly organised by the Tamulpur units of the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU), All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU), Koch-Rajbongshi Students’ Union, Rabha Students’ Union, Sarania Kachari Students’ Union, Krishak Sangha, Gramya Vikash Manch, Adha Darshan Trust and many other organisations.

The rally, started from the office of the Tamulpur Anchalik AASU, was flagged off by Biju Barbaruah, managing trustee of Asha Darshan Trust.

More than a thousand people including students from local educational institutions, women members of a number of Self Help Groups participated in the rally along with placards, banners, posters and fastoons and shouted slogans seeking protection of  women, for stopping gambling and anti-social activities in Tamulpur Sub-division.

The protestors also shouted slogans against the Assam Government for its failure to stop molestation and rape cases across the State.

A memorandum has been sent to the Assam Chief Minister through the Sub-Divisional Officer (C) of Tamulpur demanding immediate action against gambling and anti-social activities in the locality.
