Ace Manipuri boxer MC Mary Kom, a five-time world boxing champion and an Olympic bronze medallist, unbelievably managed to lose 2 kg in 4 hours for a boxing tournament in Poland.
She even won a gold medal at the championship, thus managing to add 3 gold medals in her belt presently in 2018.
After landing in Poland at around 3.30 am in the morning she went for a general weight test for all participants. After finding that she weighed above 48 kg, she was given a time of 4 hours to shed her extra weight to avoid being disqualified.
The 35 year old who is always open to challenges did skipping for an hour at a stretch and managed to lose 2kgs inspite of being jet-lagged.
She was the only Indian to win a gold at the tournament. She said that she is always working out new strategies to improve her boxing skills and is never satisfied with her performance.
A mother of three children, she was all praises for her husband Onler whom she considers her best friend.
She said, “Onler is my rock. It is because of him that I can be this obsessive about my sport and it is because of him that I manage to never cross the unhealthy line when it comes to obsession”.
The Manipuri boxer who has been associated with boxing for nearly two decades says she could not devote much time to her children because of her hectic schedule.
According to her husband she is hyperactive and always looking for work even at home and cannot stay idle for a moment, reports The Assam Tribune.
The boxer, who will be turning 36 soon isn’t thinking about slowing down at home or inside the ring. She said, “No, the world championships in November is not my last. I am not going anywhere till the 2020 Olympics provided my body stays fit. I know my limitations but I also know my strengths. If there is any injury then I will see”.
