Imphal: The Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI), a unified civil society platform dedicated to safeguarding the territorial integrity, cultural identity, and social harmony of Manipur, elected a new batch of office bearers, with Yengkokpam Dhiren, popularly known as YK Dhiren, as the new convenor.
The election was held during its second general body meeting at its Imphal office on Sunday. Fifteen sub-committees have been formed for the 2026โ27 term, and 30 executive members of these sub-committees have also been elected.
Formed in October 2019, COCOMI comprises over 55 influential Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and nine Branch Committees working together to uphold the voice and unity of the indigenous people.
Speaking to the media, the newly elected convenor, YK Dhiren, said he will work relentlessly to strengthen the idea of Manipur. Calling upon all communities to work collectively toward restoring peace and normalcy in the state, he urged everyone to help build a strong Manipuri nation.
Stating that the foremost task at the moment is restoring peace and normalcy, Dhiren added that the violent crisis which erupted on May 3, 2023, and claimed over 260 lives, is not yet over.
He further asserted that everybody knows who is behind this crisis and said the Government of India must stop oppressing the indigenous people by using Chin-Kuki narco-terrorists as a proxy.
Addressing the governmentโs unsatisfactory response to the month-long agitation of IDPs in December 2025, Dhiren appealed to all sections of society to join and support the mega mass rally scheduled for January 31, 2026, against the Government of Indiaโs alleged โproxy warโ.
