Two women rebels belonging to Manipur insurgent group Kanglei Yawol Kanba Lup (KYKL) were arrested by security forces on Saturday in Tengnoupal.

The KYKL women rebels were nabbed at around 3.45 pm during frisking at Tengnoupal Bailey Bridge, police sources said.

KYKL is a banned Meiti rebel outfit of Manipur formed in January 1994 by the unification of breakaway factions like Ibopishak factions of the KCP, UNLF and PREPAK) led by Meiraba. It is fighting for sovereign homeland for the Meitis.

The women, who were on the way to Imphal from Moreh in a passenger van, had planned to carry out “illegal activities”, a police official said.

Further investigation is underway, the official added.
