COVID19 positive

The total number of COVID19 cases in Manipur has increased to 1,279, including 663 active cases, with the detection of 19 new cases on Thursday.

Informing this, the health department on Thursday said in the last 24 hours, 19 persons, including 14 males and 5 females, have been confirmed as COVID19 positive cases.

The persons tested positive at the VRDL (Virus Research & Diagnosis Laboratory) of RIMS and JNIMS, additional director and spokesperson of the health department, Dr Khoirom Sasheekumar Mangang said.

The infected patients are from Chrurachandpur, Imphal West, Kakching, Kamjong, Kangpokpi, Thoubal and Ukhrul districts.

All are returnees from other states. They are being shifted to the COVID Care Facilities, the health department spokesperson said in a statement.

All necessary medical precautionary measures like containment and contact tracing are in place.

In the 24 hours, 37 persons were discharged from COVID Care Centres of Meitram, Kakching and RIMS after they were found COVID 19 free on a Real Time PCR test, it added.

The cumulative number of positive cases stands at 1,279.

While the state currently has 663 active cases, 616 other patients have recovered from the disease.

Manipur’s COVID19 recovery case stands at 48.16 per cent.

As on Thursday, a total of 53,030 samples have been tested for COVID19, another official source said.

Altogether 7,506 inmates have been staying in the quarantine centres including paid quarantine centres while 55,385 others have completed quarantine.

As part of the ongoing drive on violators of lockdown, not wearing face masks in public and not maintaining social distancing to prevent the spread of COVID19, Manipur Police have detained 504 persons and released later after warning.

Informing this, additional director general of police (law and order) L Kailun in a statement issued on Thursday said 325 vehicles have been detained and a sum of Rs 48,050 collected as fines.
