Tokyo Olympics silver medallist – Mirabai Chanu from Manipur, on Tuesday afternoon, reached her home.
She was accorded a hero’s welcome. Chanu arrived at the Imphal Airport at around 1:40 pm and was received Manipur chief minister Biren Singh.

Unprecedented scenes were witnessed in Imphal as people in thousands gathered at the airport, defying curfew, and then walked alongside the convoy of Mirabai Chanu.
Later, the Manipur Government felicitated Mirabai Chanu at the City Convention Hall in Imphal.

During the felicitation programme, Manipur chief minister Biren Singh handed over Mirabai Chanu a cheque of Rs 1 crore as award for stellar performance at the Olympics.
She was also handed over the appointment letter for her posting in the Manipur Police Department as Additional SP.
Mirabai Chanu said: “This silver medal is even more special because of the love people of India and my state Manipur have given me. I am grateful to each and every person who came today to congratulate me and gave me their blessings.”

It may be mentioned here that Mirabai Chanu returned to her home in Manipur after two-long years.
