As part of Swarnim Vijay Varsh celebrations, the Swarnim Vijay Mashaal (victory flame) was received by Manipur chief minister Biren Singh at SAI Stadium in Imphal on Saturday. 

The Swarnim Vijay Varsh is being celebrated to commemorate 50 years of India’s magnificent victory over Pakistan in 1971.

The Mashaal, which commenced its journey from National War Memorial in New Delhi on December 16, 2020, was welcomed in Imphal on Saturday and was handed over to chief minister Biren Singh. 

To honour the valour and sacrifice of the Indian Armed Forces in the 1971 Indo-Pak War and to rejoice in the Liberation of Bangladesh, an impressive event was organized at the SAI Stadium in Imphal.

The event was attended by prominent civil dignitaries of Manipur, senior military and police officials and ex-Servicemen from the state. 

“Hon’ble Chief Minister of Manipur Shri N Biren Singh was the Chief Guest on the occasion and he jointly received the Victory Flame with General Officer Commanding Red Shield Div in the presence of DGP Manipur Police, IGAR (South) and other senior civil and military dignitaries,” an official said. 

To commemorate the arrival of the Swarnim Vijay Mashaal in Manipur, a friendly exhibition football match was also organised.
