Imphal: Soubam Ibopishak Singh, retired Chief General Manager of the Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID), was sworn in as the Chairman of the Manipur Electricity Regulatory Commission (MnREC) on January 13, 2026.
The Governor of Manipur, Ajay Kumar Bhalla, administered the oath of office to SI Singh in the swearing-in ceremony held at the Darbar Hall of Lok Bhavan, Imphal.
This is the first time the government has appointed a chairperson of the MnREC in the state, officials reported.
MLAs, the Chief Secretary, Security Advisor, and other senior officers attended the oath-taking ceremony.
SI Singh is an alumnus of Sainik School, Imphal.
Over an illustrious career, he served in leading organisations including the Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), North Eastern Electric Power Corporation (NEEPCO), and POWERGRID.
During his illustrious 34-year working career, he held various responsibilities across the northeastern states, including Mizoram, Manipur, Tripura, Assam, and Meghalaya.
He retired as Chief General Manager of POWERGRID on December 31, 2025, and subsequently joined MnREC as Chairman with effect from January 2, 2026.
The chairperson shall hold office for a term of five years from the date on which he enters upon his office, or until he attains the age of sixty-five years, whichever is earlier.
