IMPHAL: In a concerted effort to curb armed violence, a joint team comprising central and state forces conducted simultaneous raids in two hideouts of armed miscreants in Kuki-dominated districts of Manipur.

The operations, which took place over the past 36 hours, led to the recovery of significant caches of arms, ammunition, and explosives in the Manipur districts of Kangpokpi and Churachandpur, according to an official report released on Thursday (August 01).

Acting on specific intelligence regarding the presence of arms and ammunition at N Khaukual village in Churachandpur district of Manipur, a combined force of Assam Rifles and Manipur police launched a search operation.

The raid resulted in the seizure of one AK-47 rifle, one .303 rifle, four single-barrel rifles, five improvised mortar bombs (Pompi), various types of ammunition, and other war-like stores.

Simultaneously, another operation was carried out in the jungle area of Lungphou village in Kangpokpi district of Manipur.

Using sniffer dogs and metal detectors, the forces uncovered one 7.62mm SKS semi-automatic assault rifle with a magazine, one .22 rifle with a magazine, two 12-inch single bore barrel guns, one improvised explosive device (IED) weighing 1.2 kg, five 7.62mm live rounds, four live cartridges, three 7.62mm fired cases, 20 .303 fired cases, three fired cartridges, and one radio set with an antenna.

All recovered items have been handed over to the Manipur Police for further investigation.
