Ace pugilist and former champion (60 kg) L Sarita Devi bowed out of of the World Women’s Boxing Championships on Sunday after being upstaged by Russia’s Natalia Shadrina.
Fourth-seeded Devi lost 0-5 to her Russian opponent.

A gold-medallist in the 2006 New Delhi edition of the championship, Devi was in quest of her maiden world medal in over a decade.
Devi was in control of the game in the opening three minutes, logging punches after punches, however, the Russain fought back in the next two rounds and got better of the multiple-time Asian champion.
The former Asian champion is also in queue of becoming a member of the International Boxing Association’s first-ever athletes commission, which will be formalised at the ongoing event.
