Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Thursday informed the state Assembly that National Register of Citizen (NRC) will be introduced in the state before the next state Assembly election.
“NRC in Manipur will be implemented before the next Assembly election and we have already sent a letter to the centre for approval,” N Biren Singh said.
The CM further informed that the base year will be discussed later after getting approval from the centre.
“The state cabinet has had an informal discussion on the issue. A state-level monitoring committee will be formed to check the entry points along the state border while exercising NRC,” the CM added.
“The committee will also create awareness among the public regarding NRC and its benefits for the indigenous people of Manipur,” the CM added.
He further informed that since 2017 around 3669 suspected illegal migrants have been prevented from entering into the state.
