IMPHAL: The Naga People’s Front (NPF) has reaffirmed its alliance with the BJP-led government in Manipur, dismissing rumours of withdrawal of support circulated on social media.

Awangbow Newmai, the Manipur NPF president, expressed gratitude to the BJP leadership for their “consistent backing” of NPF candidate Timothy Zemik during the recent Lok Sabha election.

In a statement issued on Thursday (June 06), Newmai condemned the dissemination of “false information” and vowed to identify and take action against those responsible in accordance with the law.

Newmai clarified on his official Facebook page that the rumours of NPF withdrawing support from the N Biren Singh-led BJP government in Manipur are “baseless and regrettable”.

The clarification follows reports circulating on social media platforms in Nagaland, suggesting NPF’s intention to withdraw support due to the defeat of their candidate, Kachui Timothy Zimik, in the Outer Manipur Lok Sabha constituency.

Despite the setback, the NPF reiterated its commitment to the BJP-led government in Manipur.

With five MLAs in the sixty-member Manipur legislative assembly, including two cabinet ministers, the NPF remains a key player in the state’s politics.
