Dimapur: In a bid to strengthen grassroots service delivery, stakeholders in Nagaland have signed a Letter of Agreement (LoA) to improve maternal and child health, nutrition, and early childhood development in selected districts.

The agreement was formalised at the Commissionerโ€™s Office in Kohima in the presence of senior officials, including Gregory Thejawelie, Kevileno Angami and L. Jamithung Lotha, along with representatives from government departments and civil society organisations.

The initiative brings together the Department of School Education, the Department of Health and Family Welfare, district administrations and the Eleutheros Christian Society under a coordinated framework aimed at delivering integrated services.

Officials said the programme will initially cover 60 villages across six eastern districts โ€” Mon, Longleng, Tuensang, Shamator, Kiphire and Noklak, which have been identified as having high levels of malnutrition. The pilot is expected to serve as a model for scaling up across the state.

Under the agreement, the education department will focus on early learning and school-based health interventions, while the health department will ensure delivery of essential services, including immunisation, antenatal and postnatal care, and access to medicines.

The Eleutheros Christian Society will support community mobilisation, awareness campaigns, supplementary nutrition and the training of frontline workers, besides facilitating Aadhaar registration for beneficiaries.

District administrations will oversee implementation, conduct periodic reviews and strengthen village-level governance mechanisms. A District Convergence Committee, to be chaired by the Deputy Commissioner, will monitor progress, with quarterly reviews planned at the block level.

Officials said the initiative aims to deliver integrated, quality services for mothers and children while creating a scalable framework to address malnutrition and improve overall health outcomes in the region.
