Myanmar hands over 5 PLA rebels to India, militants brought to Manipur

As many as five rebels belonging to the Manipur insurgent outfit – People’s Liberation Army (PLA) have been deported to India by Myanmar. 

The five PLA rebels were brought to the Bir Tikendrajit International Airport at Imphal in Manipur aboard a special Indian Air Force (IAF) flight, police said on Thursday.

The rebels have been identified as Salam Somendro, Th Kalasana, Nongmaithem Narendra, Taorem Rohen and Loitongbam Rajkumar. 

The five PLA militants were arrested by the police in Myanmar near the Chindwin River Bridge in August last year. 

The PLA rebels were arrested during Operation Sunrise, which the Myanmar Army had carried out against Northeast India rebel groups.

The rebels have been handed over to the Manipur Police for further investigation and interrogation.
