Unidentified armed militants attacked an outpost of the Assam Rifles in Manipur’s Chandel district in the wee hours on Thursday.
According to media reports, armed militants opened fire targeting the Kachibung outpost of the Assam Rifles in Chandel.

The Kachibung outpost falls under the Molcha police station.
The alert Assam Rifles troops, sources said, promptly retaliated and the militants fled from the scene.
The People’s Liberation Army of Manipur, popularly known as PLA, has reportedly claimed responsibility for the attack.

Reports said the PLA jointly carried out the attack with the Manipur Naga Peoples’ Front (MNPF).
The PLA, founded by N. Bisheshwar Singh on September 25, 1978, is a separatist armed revolutionary group fighting for a separate independent socialist state of Manipur.
The cadres of outfit are drawn from the Meitei people and the Nagas, Kukis and other tribal people are virtually not part of it.
The outpost is located along the Indo-Myanmar border.
According to a media report, the incident took place at 2.30 am.
There is not report of any casualty.
The Hindu reported quoting official sources that the miscreants, armed with ‘sophisticated’ weapons, including automatic rifles, cordoned off the 19 Assam Rifles at Selon village.
Besides, lethod bombs were fired by the attackers, said the report.
The exchange of fire lasted for more than 30 minutes.
Chandel district police and paramilitary personnel later conducted a search operation in the nearby areas. However, no one has been arrested.
