Imphal: A major fire broke out at a plastics recycling factory in Imphal East, Manipur sending plumes of smoke billowing into the sky and forcing hundreds of residents to evacuate.
This marks the first incident of such scale involving a plastic factory in the state.

According to the Manipur Fire Services, the blaze erupted at the factory located in Naharup Mamang Leikai around 8:30 AM.
The intense heat and potentially toxic fumes emanating from burning plastic prompted the evacuation of nearby residents within a 500-meter radius.

Firefighters battled the inferno for nearly five hours, deploying three tenders to douse the flames.
The fire reportedly destroyed several factory machines, including those used for compressing plastic bottles and waste. The extent of property damage is yet to be determined.

Yumnam Ibomcha, the factory owner, stated that the cause of the fire remains unknown.
