Six-time world champion Mary Kom has been honoured with Asia’s Best Female Athlete award at Sunway Resort Hotel & Spa in Malaysia on Tuesday.

The award was received on behalf of Mary Kom by eminent sports journalist Subodh Malla Barua as she was not able to attend the function in Malaysia.

The award was presented during the 22nd edition of the Asian Sports Press Union (AIPS Asia) meeting at Selengkor in Malaysia.

The award has been introduced by AIPS Asia.

The meeting known as AIPS Asia Congress 2019 was held from August 26, 2019, to August 28, 2019.

Mary Kom recently won the gold medal in the 51 kg category event of the 23rd President’s Cup in Indonesia.

She also won the gold medal at the Second India Open Boxing Championship in Guwahati.

Mary created history by becoming the world boxing champion for the sixth time in November last year.

South Korea footballer Son Heung Min was honoured with Asia’s Best Male Athlete award of Asia at the function.

The best men team of Asia was awarded to the Qatar National Football Team and the best women team was awarded to the Japanese Women National Team.

Representatives from 30 countries took part in the AIPS Asia Congress 2019.
