Wungngayam Muirang from Manipur made history on Sunday by emerging as the first Tangkhul Naga footballer to feature in the Indian Super League (ISL).
On Sunday, Muirang, who hails from Ukhrul district in Manipur, made the first appearance in the ISL 2020-21 by playing for Bengaluru FC against Kerala Blasters at the Fatorda Stadium in Goa.
Bengaluru FC won the match by 4-2 goals against Kerala Blasters.
Born in Ukhrul district, the 21-year-old defender has played for top Indian clubs including Shillong Lajong, Pune FC and Gokulam Kerala, says a match report.
A media report quoted Muirang as saying that he was happy to make his first appearance in the Indian Super League (ISL).
He said he felt an “amazing feeling” and termed it a “proud moment”.
The talented footballer hoped that his debut woukld hopefully inspire other promising players from his community to believe that they can make it to the top Indian football world.
The report quoted the Muirang as saying: “It is not the end, This is just the beginning and I truly believe that there is much more to come. The hard work is on.”
