Irengbam Chanu has clinched a silver medal at the '8th International Karate Championship Indian Challenger.

Guwahati: Irengbam Pushpa Chanu, an Internally Displaced Person (IDP) from the Urup OBC Girls Hostel Relief Camp in Manipur‘s Imphal East district, has brought laurels to her state sailing against all odds and the toughest times.

Chanu has clinched a silver medal at the ‘8th International Karate Championship Indian Challenger Cup’ held in West Bengal’s Kolkata between July 26 and 28 this year.

Born to Irengbam Doren Meitei and Irengbam Mikhubi, and a resident of Tengnoupal district’s Moreh, Chanu is a 10th standard student at the Urup Higher Secondary School.

Despite the tragic circumstances that befell her after violence erupted in the state on May last year, Chanu chose to shape her own destiny.

Her passion for karate, which began in 2018, drove her to train relentlessly under the guidance of her coach Arambam Grayson in pursuit of this coveted prize.

In the darkest period of her life, Chanu clung to an unflinching faith in herself and chose to shine like a diamond.

Her determination and perseverance have now been recognised and celebrated by the Imphal East district administration, which salutes her indomitable spirit and congratulates her on the achievement.

Chanu’s story is a powerful ode to those who continue to strive for their dreams despite setbacks and hardships. It serves as a gentle reminder to keep persevering and to shine brightly, even during the toughest and most challenging times.
