Manipur Health and Family Welfare Minister L Jayentakumar on Saturday said 1,107 beneficiaries have undergone treatment till now in the state under the Ayushman Bharat Yojana.

Moreover, 56,728 beneficiaries have applied and received Ayushman Bharat cards.

Minister Jayentakumar made the statement while replying to a question by opposition Congress MLA Okram Henry Singh of Wangkhei constituency during the question and answer session of the ongoing Assembly in Imphal on Saturday.

He also admitted that a sum of Rs 2.58 crore has been spent out of a total sanctioned amount of Rs 7.97 crore for the state under Ayushman Bharat Yojana in 2018-19.

Ayushman Bharat Yojana, also known as Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, is a national health scheme launched in 2018, which aims to provide an annual health cover of Rs 5 lakh per family per year.

On Friday, Minister had informed the House of 60 members that altogether 8,359 families claimed the benefits of Chief Minister Gi Hakshelgi Tengbag (Chief Minister’s Health Assistance – CMHT) in the state.

The Minister was responding to a question by the same opposition MLA.

Earlier, a total of 1,09,567 families identified from the socio-economic caste census were enrolled as beneficiaries under the CMHT which had bagged the award for country’s best implemented public health programme last year.

Eligible families under the scheme are given a health card to avail cashless treatment as it provides medical cover up to Rs 2 lakh per family per year for seven critical diseases including kidney, cardiovascular and liver related ailments, burns, neo-natal and neuro problems and cancer. But 48,896 of them shifted to Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana.

So far, a total of 60,671 families identified from the socio-economic caste census were enrolled as beneficiaries, he said.

A sum of Rs 10 crore was allocated in 2017-18 for the scheme and Rs 20 crore for 2018-19.

The CMHT was initiated through a state cabinet decision taken on October 11, 2017 and it was formally launched by chief minister N Biren Singh during last year’s statehood day function on January 21.
