Manipur: Women unite against drone bomb attacks

Guwahati: Hundreds of women belonging to the Meitei community from various organizations staged a series of protests and demonstrations across Manipur, condemning the recent drone bomb attacks on innocent civilians and demanding immediate government action against the culprits.

On Wednesday, the Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi Apunba Lup and All Manipur Women Voluntary Welfare Association organized a sit-in protest at Khoyathong, Imphal, calling for the government to safeguard the people.

Thangjam Apabi, General Secretary of Poirei Leimarol Apunba Meira Paibi, denounced the drone bomb attacks at Koutruk, Kadangband, and Senjam Chirang villages, which resulted in the death of a woman and injuries to many others, including security personnel and a journalist.

On Tuesday night, Meira Paibis took out a torch rally at Khurai, Imphal East district, with banners reading, “Meira rally against the killing of innocent civilians by drone bombing at Koutruk and various parts of Manipur by Kuki militants.”

On Monday, the Macha Singgi Mama Apunba Lup (MMAL) staged a protest demonstration at Moirang Keithel, near Loktak Lake, demanding the withdrawal of central security forces from the state and action against militants.

The protesters held placards with messages such as “Speak up Modi gear up your double engine,” “Resign incompetent DGP,” and “CM should take immediate actions.”
