Guwahati: Continuing its efforts to recover illegal arms and ammunition from the possession of miscreants, security forces in Manipur while carrying out a series of operations in the Northeast state recovered a cache of arms and ammunition over the past 24 hours.
Search operations and area domination were conducted by the security forces in the fringe and vulnerable areas of both the hill as well as the valley districts on Friday (June 21).
Extensive search in Churachandpur district’s S Lonphai and Langjing Manbi villages led to the recovery of a cache of arms and ammunition, the Manipur police informed.
The recovered weapons include a 9mm carbine machine gun along with magazine, two 12 bore Single Barrel Breech Loader (SBBL) guns, two improvised mortars (pumpi guns), and seven live rounds of ammunition.
Additionally, the security forces continued search operations and area domination in the fringe and vulnerable areas of the hill and valley districts on Friday.

Moreover, movement of as many as 24 vehicles carrying essential items along the National Highway-37 (NH-37), and 309 vehicles along the National Highway-2 (NH-2) was ensured.
On the other hand, strict security measures are being taken in all the vulnerable places and a security convoy has been provided in the sensitive stretches in order to ensure free and safe movement of the vehicles.
In addition, a total of 123 ‘nakas’ and checkpoints have been set up in different districts of Manipur, both in the hill as well as the valley districts.
Meanwhile, the Manipur police have detained at least 98 people over the past 24 hours in connection with violations of law in different districts of the state.
