Imphal: Unknown miscreants vandalized and set fire to properties belonging to Manipur’s District Council Administration in Churachandpurโ€™s Hiangtam, Lamka, on Tuesday.

In a circulated video, the miscreants were seen vandalizing office property, including tables, chairs, documents, and other materials, and setting them ablaze.

The Executive Officer (Town) office under the District Council Administration in Churachandpur’s Hiangtam area was attacked, with documents torched and property damaged.

Police stated that the incident occurred between 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. The reason for the vandalism and the identities of the perpetrators remain unknown. A case has been registered to apprehend those involved in the arson attack.

The arson attack occurred days after the government ordered the transfer and posting of several state officials in Manipur.

As per the order, CEO/ADC Churachandpur Lalthazam was transferred to ADC Pherzawl, while ADC Kangpokpi and SDO/BDO Kangpokpi, Sokhongam Baite, was appointed to replace Lalthazam as CEO/ADC Churachandpur.

The Kuki Students Organisation (Churachandpur), Hmar Students Association, and Zomi Students Federation have jointly opposed the new posting. They wrote a letter to the Chief Minister of Manipur on March 29, stating that the recent appointment of a new CEO/ADC for Churachandpur has caused immense frustration.

The student bodies stated that they have jointly resolved to oppose the appointment and to fight for the retention of the previous CEO in Churachandpur district.
