The team nabbed him during a cordon-and-search operation at a rented house located at Keishampat Leimajam Leikai under Imphal Police Station in Imphal West district.

Imphal: Two suspected cadres of the proscribed Kanglei Yaol Kanna Lup (KYKL), an underground outfit demanding the restoration of Manipurโ€™s lost sovereignty, were arrested in separate operations conducted by a joint team of central and state police over the past 24 hours.

Officials also said on Friday that a few explosive items, military materials, two communication devices, and some incriminating documents were recovered from them.

In the first phase of the operation, carried out on the basis of intelligence inputs from various sources, security forces arrested an active KYKL cadre identified as Salam Shyam Singh (44), a resident of Sega Road, Takhellambam Leikai, Imphal West district. The team nabbed him during a cordon-and-search operation at a rented house located at Keishampat Leimajam Leikai under Imphal Police Station in Imphal West district.

Based on his disclosure, security forces subsequently arrested another KYKL associate, identified as Salam Naobi Singh (43) of Nongmaikhong Awang Leikai in Kakching district, to whom ammunition and explosives had allegedly been handed over. The team arrested him from his residence.

From their possession, security forces recovered the following:
i. 111 (one hundred eleven) rounds of ammunition of different calibres,
ii. one No. 36 HE grenade without a detonator,
iii. two detonators,
iv. two mobile handsets, and
v. two Aadhaar cards.
