Imphal: Central security forces and Manipur police intensified counter-insurgency operations in Churachandpur and Kangpokpi districts on Monday, resulting in the arrest of two juvenile Kuki militants and the recovery of a significant cache of arms, ammunition, and explosives.
At a Mobile Vehicle Check Post (MVCP) set up at P. Geljang in Churachandpur district, joint security forces apprehended two active juvenile cadres of the Kuki National Front-Military Council (KNF-MC).
Officials reported that 77 live rounds of 5.56 mm ammunition were recovered from their possession. Given their minor status, the arrested individuals’ identities were kept confidential, and they were handed over to the Juvenile Justice Board for proper rehabilitation.
Further investigation into their militant network is underway.
In a separate operation on the same day, a joint team carried out area domination and foot patrols at Chiru village. The village falls under the jurisdiction of Phayeng and Kangchup Police Station in Kangpokpi district.
During the operation, the forces recovered a suspected improvised explosive device (IED) and four locally made mortar shells.
The explosives were safely secured, and disposal and other procedural formalities were initiated immediately.
Police have registered a case, and investigations into both incidents are ongoing.
