Imphal: A joint team of central security forces and state police arrested three members of different insurgent groups in a pre-Republic Day operation in Manipur’s Thoubal and Imphal West districts, officials reported on Sunday.

The team captured two active members of the underground Peopleโ€™s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak โ€“ Progressive (PREPAK PRO) from the SL. Zoungam area under Machi police station, Tengnoupal district.

The arrestees were identified as Moirangthem Tondonba Singh (20), also called Tonsenba, a resident of Heirok Part II, Devi Mandop Leikai, Thoubal district. He is reportedly the self-styled corporal of the outfit.

During the predawn operation, the team also arrested Laikuram Yaiphaba Singh (23), also known as Yaikhunba, from Phaknung Makha Leikai, Imphal East district.

Manipur police further reported that security forces apprehended an extortionist, identified as an active cadre of the outlawed Kangleipak Communist Party (Taibanganba), from the Kekrupat area under Imphal police station, Imphal West district.

Salam Bishapati Singh (39), also known as Kebo, of Haobam Marak Ngangom Leikai, Imphal West district, was seized along with a mobile phone.

The police added that the arrested cadres were booked under the relevant sections of the law for further legal proceedings.
