Manipur insurgents arrested
The arrestees are accused of extorting money from local residents and government employees in Bishnupur over the past few weeks.

Imphal: Two individuals allegedly linked to Manipur valley underground outfits were arrested in a twin operation in Bishnupur district on Saturday, officials said on Sunday.

Central security forces, with the support of state police, apprehended an active member of the proscribed Revolutionary People’s Front (RPF), the political wing of the banned People’s Liberation Army (PLA).

Sagapam Tomba Singh (24), a resident of Ningthoukhong Kha Khunou Maning Leikai Ward No. 4 under Bishnupur Police Station, was arrested from his residence.

Based on information obtained during his interrogation, the joint team conducted a second operation, resulting in the arrest of another insurgent cadre.

Laishram Thoithoi Meitei, also known as Lanngamba (29) of Chairel Ahallup in the same district, was also taken into custody from his home.

The arrestees are accused of extorting money from local residents and government employees in Bishnupur over the past few weeks.

Police added that both suspects are currently in custody pending further legal proceedings.

The report further stated that security forces continue to carry out search operations and area domination in fringe and vulnerable areas of the hill districts.

Movement of 258 vehicles carrying essential goods along NH-37 has been ensured. Strict security measures have been implemented at all vulnerable locations, and a security convoy is provided along sensitive stretches to guarantee the safe and unhindered movement of vehicles.
