Carrying signs urging dialogue and self-determination, protestors called for an end to the violence. Messages like “No Political Solution, No Peace” and “Union Territory for the Kuki-Zo People Right Now!” reflected their desire for a separate political entity under Article 239A of the Indian Constitution.
ITLF Chairman Pagin Haokip emphasized the urgency for a central government intervention. “Tribals are demanding the creation of a Union Territory with a legislature,” he stated.
The ITLF pointed out the ongoing hardships faced by tribal communities. Their statement detailed continued killings, displacements, and economic disruptions. Recent attacks in Jiribam district, including property destruction and abductions, underlined the fragile security situation.
