Imphal: Several tribal villagers in Manipurโs border Kamjong district staged a sit-in on Thursday at Ningthi village, protesting prolonged delays and irregularities in the disbursement of housing funds under the Pradhan Mantri Awaas YojanaโGramin (PMAY-G) scheme.
Placards at the protest site read, โWhen will our PMY installment be released?โ
The protesters, all beneficiaries of the PMAY-G scheme, claimed that since 2022, only the first installment under the scheme has been released, despite many beneficiaries having already completed construction of their houses.
The remaining installments have not been credited even after repeated follow-ups with the authorities. M. Shimray, one of the beneficiaries belonging to the Tangkhul Naga tribe, said on the sidelines of the protest, โWe have completed all our house construction, but the second installment has not been cleared.โ The beneficiaries stated they will continue their protest until their dues are released.
Meanwhile, officials stated that out of 413 PMAY-G beneficiaries in Kamjong T.D. Block, 223 have completed their houses and received final installments. Altogether, 190 houses remain under construction, with 61 at the plinth level and 129 at the lintel level.
Launched on 1 April 2016, PMAY-G is the Centreโs flagship mission under the Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD).
The scheme aims to provide a pucca house with basic amenities to all houseless households and those living in kutcha or dilapidated houses.
