Imphal: Three tribal organisations have announced a coffin rally in Churachandpur, to coincide with the funeral of Vungzagin Valte, MLA of the 56โ€“Thanlon Assembly Constituency, who passed away on February 21.

In a joint statement, Ros Infimate, President of Hmar Inpui General Headquarters, K. Lalbiaksanga Khawlhring, President of Mizo Peopleโ€™s Convention, and Vumsuan Naulak, Chairman of the Zomi Council, expressed collective grief over the lawmakerโ€™s demise. Valte, 61, had succumbed to injuries sustained in a mob attack in Imphal on May 4, 2023.

The leaders extended their deepest condolences to the bereaved family and appealed to the public to maintain peace and refrain from violence during the funeral and the rally. Citizens were urged to join in expressing their grief respectfully.

The announcement came as the Manipur Government declared a three-day state mourning from February 22 to 24, 2026, to honour the late MLA.
