Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Friday informed the state has topped the list of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise (MSME) business registration among the states of Northeast.

“The rapid growth of businesses in Manipur has been possible due to the state government’s aggressive push for business and entrepreneurship under the Start-up scheme,” Singh said.

“The Manipur Start-up policy has supported over 100 new businesses during the last one and half years. Large numbers of innovative businesses are growing very fast,” he added.

“As per the Annual Report (2018-19) of Ministry of MSME, Manipur alone has 12,438 MSME businesses, the highest in the Northeast from 2015 to 2019,” Singh further said.

“The figure is higher than the remaining states of the Northeast combined, which is 6,696 businesses,” Singh added.

Singh also informed that overall 68.25 lakh MSME businesses filed Udyog Aadhar Memorandum (UAM) in the country during the period.

“Manipur also topped in women ownership of MSME businesses,” the CM further informed.

“50 per cent of the MSME businesses in Manipur is owned by women. The national figure is 20 per cent,” Singh further infomred.

“The rapid growth in the MSME has boosted Manipur’s GDP, which currently stands at 8 per cent,” the CM further claimed.

“The state cabinet will soon approve the Stand-up policy- a scheme aimed at improving the economic condition of the minority communities of Manipur,” Singh informed.
