Imphal: Three children, including two siblings, died after falling into a waterlogged pit at the construction site of the Border Security Forceโs Subsidiary Training Centre (BSF-STC) at Gangpimual in Manipur’s Churachandpur district on Tuesday afternoon.
The victims, aged between three and five years, were playing near the site where BSF workers were carrying out construction work.
Despite efforts to rescue them and rush them to Churachandpur District Hospital, they could not be saved and were declared dead by doctors.
The deceased were minors, and their identities have been withheld. All of them were residents of Bezar Veng in Gangpimual, Churachandpur district. They were reportedly playing near the waterlogged pit at a BSF fencing post, which had recently been dug using a JCB machine.
Two of the children were siblings and studied at a local school in Gangpimual, while the third was a preparatory-level student.
The children reportedly drowned in water about four feet deep. Their funeral service is likely to be held on Wednesday.
