IMPHAL: A team of the Manipur Police arrested three alleged smugglers and recovered a cache of suspected WY (Yaba) tablets weighing approximately one kg on Saturday morning near Imphal West.

A source said that the consignment of the tablets was worth around Rs 60 lakhs in the regional grey market.

Rs 19,620 in cash and three mobile handsets have also been recovered from their possessions.

The arrests and seizures were made during a routine frisking operation at Sekmai in Imphal West district on National Highway 102 at around 7 am on Saturday.

One truck used in transporting the suspected drugs has also been impounded, the police said.

The drugs concealed in 50 plastic bags were recovered under the driver’s seat.

The source of the illegal items is suspected to be outside the state through the NH 102 connecting Imphal to Dimapur (Nagaland), according to the preliminary reports issued by the state police department.

The arrested persons have been identified as identified as Md Waris Khan, 35, Md Akbar, 36, and Md Wahir.

They have been booked under the NDPS 1985 Act.

The arrested persons along with the seized items and impounded vehicle are now in Sekmai police station for further legal proceedings, the police added.
