IMPHAL: Three persons have been arrested by the police in Manipur for their alleged involvement in a shooting incident near a polling station in Imphal East district.

The three arrested individuals were allegedly involved in a firing incident that occurred at Moirangkampu Sajeb in Imphal East district on Friday (April 19) during polling hours.

The firing incident resulted in injuries to one individual.

The trio attempted to flee the scene in a four-wheeler following the shooting but were apprehended later on Friday (April 19) evening.

They were arrested less than 5 kilometres away from the site of the incident.

Upon their arrest, the Manipur police confiscated a .32 pistol along with ammunition, as well as a sum of Rs 1.5 lakh in cash from their possession.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Leichombam Jemson Singh (34), Nongthombam Ratan (47) and Khumukcham Angamba (32).

The Manipur police stated that they were arrested “in connection with a firing incident at Moirangkampu primary school in which one person was injured”.

A case has been registered in connection with the firing incident, and investigations are currently underway.

Manipur witnessed a voter turnout exceeding 68 percent across two Lok Sabha constituencies, Inner Manipur and Outer Manipur.
