Imphal: Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh assured student representatives on August 20 that the state government supports the implementation of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Manipur.
He said the issue would be discussed during the State Assembly session beginning on September 2. He also said that conducting the process and ensuring its error-free implementation would require careful consideration.
The Chief Minister was speaking to a student delegation from 10 schools and colleges in Imphal that met him at the Chief Ministerโs Secretariat to demand the implementation of the NRC in Manipur before the Census.
The meeting also covered the reopening of educational institutions and the identification of illegal immigrants.
He reiterated that the state government supports the implementation of the NRC in Manipur. He added that both conducting the NRC exercise and ensuring its error-free implementation were issues that needed to be addressed.
The meeting was attended by Commissioner of Education Ningthoujam Geoffrey and Director of Education (S) Ng. Bhogendra Meitei.
The student delegation comprised representatives from DM College of Science, Manipur College, CC Higher Secondary School, Johnstone Higher Secondary School, Nambol Higher Secondary School, T.G. Higher Secondary School, Ibotonsana Girlsโ Higher Secondary School, Ram Lal Paul School, Model Higher Secondary School and Ananda Singh Higher Secondary School.
