Imphal: A joint team of central and state security forces arrested an alleged drug smuggler and an insurgent cadre in two separate operations in Thoubal and Imphal East districts on Friday, police said.
In the first operation, security personnel intercepted an A-Star car (registration number UP-32DS-2851) at Lilong Alia Lamkhai under Lilong Police Station in Thoubal district. The occupant, Md Abbas Ahamed (42), was arrested.
During the search, the team recovered 1.543 kilograms of brown sugar from his possession along with the vehicle.
In a second operation, security forces arrested an active cadre of the banned Peopleโs Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK), identified as Sapam Barlin Singh, also known as Nongthang (22), a resident of Thangmeiband Khomdrang Selungba Leikai in Imphal West.
He was apprehended from Porompat Ayangpalli Road near the JNIMS main gate under Porompat Police Station in Imphal East district.
Police said search operations and area domination continue in vulnerable locations across the state. Movement of 348 vehicles carrying essential goods along National Highway 37 has been ensured, with security convoys provided in sensitive stretches to allow safe travel.
