Imphal: The Anti-Extortion Squad of the Manipur Police arrested six suspected militants of different outfits involved in extortion and abduction activities in valley districts.
The police said that they also recovered explosives, vehicles, demand letters and some digital items during the operation.
Six cadres of separate undergrounds were overpowered in two targetted operations at two different hideouts of the Thoubal and Bishnupur districts in the past 24 hours.
In the first raid at Charangpat Mayai Leikai, Thoubal, five suspected activists of the proscribed Kangleipak Communist Party – People’s War Group (KCP-PWG) were arrested.
One 36 HE hand grenade, two demand letters of KCP (PWG), five mobile handsets, 13 SIM cards and a four-wheeler were recovered from them. They were identified as Thokchom Bikram Singh (29), Sinam Bijen Singh (37), Thangjam Deepak Singh (30), Lambamayum Naobi Singh (26), and Huiningsumbam Ton Singh (21).
Another alleged cadre of the outlawed People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak—Progressive, Nongmaithem Gunamani alias Allu (32), was also nabbed from the Kumbi area, Bishnupur District.
He was involved in alleged extortion activities.
The police recovered one 36-hand grenade, a motorcycle and a mobile handset from the accused.
Police added that arrested cadres and seized items are now in police custody for further legal proceedings.
