After an extensive search, the team recovered a carbine machine gun, a .303 rifle, a country-made mortar, five grenades, a rifle Grenade, two mortar bombs, an IED, live rounds of ammunition.

Guwahati: The Indian Army along with the Manipur police while carrying out a series of coordinated operations in the Northeastern state’s Bishnupur and Imphal East districts on Friday, June 7, recovered a huge cache of arms, ammunition and explosives.

Based on specific information about hidden weapons, the joint team carried out an early morning operation in Bishnupur district’s Sangthong and its adjoining areas. After an extensive search, the team recovered a carbine machine gun, a .303 rifle, a country-made mortar, five grenades, a rifle Grenade, two mortar bombs, an Improvised Explosive Device (IED), live rounds of ammunition and other war-like stores.

The recovered items, which include sophisticated weaponry and explosives, showcases the extent of threat neutralised by the security forces, Kohima-based defence Public Relations Officer (PRO) said in a statement.  

During another operation conducted in the fringe areas of Imphal East district, the joint team with the help of a sniffer dog recovered a 9mm carbine machine gun, a 2-inch mortar, an improvised heavy calibre 60mm mortar, a country-made mortar, several live rounds of ammunition and other war-like stores, it added.

The security forces in Manipur continue to work in close coordination to prevent any untoward incident ensuring stability and security of the region, it further said.
