Imphal: In a significant operation on Thursday, a joint team of central and state security forces unearthed two insurgents’ hideouts in Manipur’s Thoubal and Kakching districts.
The coordinated efforts of the Assam Rifles and Manipur Police led to the discovery of a large cache of arms and ammunition at two vulnerable locations—one in the foothills and another in a paddy field.

The operation was initiated following specific intelligence reports indicating the presence of weapons and other war-like stores in the Tekcham Maning Ching hills of Thoubal district of Manipur.
Early on Thursday morning, the joint team, supported by sniffer dogs, launched a search and cordon operation.
The team successfully recovered a range of weapons, including one 9mm Carbine, a bolt-action rifle, two 9mm pistols, one M20 pistol, 11 grenades, and various types of ammunition.

Simultaneously, another operation was carried out in the Ching Lukok paddy field in Kakching district of Manipur.
The forces uncovered additional weaponry and equipment, including a 51mm mortar, four HE-36 hand grenades, a Baofeng walkie-talkie set with a charger, two single-barrel local guns, a locally made carbine gun, a locally made revolver, 124 live ammunition rounds, two lathode bombs, seven tear smoke shells, two wood-piercing shells, and one rubber bullet.
All the recovered items have been handed over to the Manipur police for further investigation.
