Imphal: A joint security team comprising central forces, Delhi Police, and Manipur Police commandos arrested nine individuals, including two alleged drug smugglers from Bihar, in a series of operations conducted at sensitive locations on Sunday, according to the police morning bulletin issued on Monday.

The operations also led to the recovery of contraband drugs.

The joint team intensified search operations and area domination exercises in fringe and vulnerable areas across various districts, installing 114 nakas/checkpoints.

In the first operation, joint forces arrested two alleged drug smugglers along with 312 grams of brown sugar from the North AOC area of Imphal West district. They were identified as Ankit Rai (22) of Chhotka Dhakaich in Biharโ€™s Buxar district (currently staying at Hatta Golapati, Imphal East) and Aman Kumar (21) of Joriyahi in Biharโ€™s Sitamarhi district (currently staying at Paona Bazar, Imphal West).

In a second operation, Md. Iqbal (23) and Md. Ajimuddin (25), both residents of Kwakta in Bishnupur district, were arrested near Hapta under Porompat Police Station in Imphal East district. Eleven soap cases containing heroin No. 4 were recovered from their possession.

Security forces, in coordination with the Forest Department, carried out a drive against illegal poppy plantations in the Songphel area, covering the Bungjang and Saichang hill ranges under Thoubal Dam Police Station in Imphal East district. During the operation, two huts were destroyed.

In the fourth operation carried out on Sunday, two cadres of the Kanglei Yaol Kanna Lup (KYKL) were apprehended from the general area between Border Pillars 72 and 73 in Yangoubung village under Moreh Police Station in Tengnoupal district.

The arrested individuals were identified as Thokchom Ingocha Singh alias Kebi (31) of Khangabok Mayai Leikai in Thoubal district and Thokchom Ragunath Meitei alias Birjit (48) of Kakching Ningthou Leikai in Kakching district.

In a fifth operation, an active cadre of the banned United National Liberation Front-Koireng (UNLF-K), identified as Laishram Inaotomba Singh alias Dondon (19) of Jiribam, was arrested from Palace Compound, Mahabali Mamang, under Porompat Police Station in Imphal East district. A mobile phone was seized from his possession.

In the sixth operation, security forces arrested an active cadre of the outlawed Peopleโ€™s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak-Progressive (PREPAK-PRO), identified as Victor Takhelmayum (19), also known as Olen, Johnson, and Naoba, from his residence in Sanjenbam Khunou, Imphal East district. A mobile phone and an Aadhaar card were seized.

In the seventh operation, security forces arrested an active cadre of the Kangleipak Communist Party-Apunba (KCP-A), identified as Thokchom Punachandra Meitei alias Tunal (28) of Chana Mayai Leikai under Lamlai Police Station in Imphal East district, from his residence.

Security forces continue to carry out search operations and area domination exercises in fringe and vulnerable areas across districts.

A total of 114 nakas/checkpoints remain in place across Manipur, both in the hill and valley districts, where two individuals were detained.

Meanwhile, the Manipur Police continue their drive to curb motor vehicle offences. Between March 30 and April 5, 2026, a total of 120 challans were issued, amounting to Rs 1,88,500.

Additionally, between March 29 and April 4, 2026, tinted films were removed from three vehicles, and one vehicle was seized.
