Imphal: Security adviser to the Manipur Government Kuldiep Singh expressed concern over the alarming usage of sophisticated weapons by the militants and anti-socials operating in this crisis-hit border state.

Talking to the newsmen at Imphal, Kuldiep Singh, who was also former CRPF Director General, said that over 800 sophisticated weapons such as M16s, M18s, and M4A1 Carbines used by the assailants were among 2,686 weapons recovered in the massive combing operations.

The militants and miscreants are targeting the innocents and even the security forces at their opportune time.

The counter-operations against the miscreants started in the aftermath of ethnic violence between two particular communities on May 3, 2023.

Stating that more than 6,000 arms have been looted from security forces since the eruption of ethnic violence, the Advisor disclosed that approximately 2,600 weapons looted from the government armouries have been recovered in the operations carried out at the hotspots of hills and valley districts.

In response to a query posed by a newsman, he stated that the sophisticated weapons recovered from the miscreants have caused concern to the higher authorities as to where these high-tech weapons are being procured in the state.

Evading a question on the suppliers of sophisticated weapons, the advisor said that these weapons are being made within the country and outside the country.

However, the security forces are in various raids at different locations but these weapons are not manufactured in this state as confirmed during the raids.
