Imphal: The Directorate of Tourism, Manipur, in collaboration with the Tourism Corporation of Manipur Limited (TCML), organised a large-scale cleanliness drive at the Sangai Ethnic Park in Moirang Khunou, Bishnupur district, on Saturday ahead of World Tourism Day 2026.
The campaign was conducted as part of preparations for the upcoming state-level World Tourism Day celebrations, with the Sangai Ethnic Park designated as the main venue for this year’s programme.
The celebrations will be held around the global theme, “Digital Agenda and Artificial Intelligence to Redesign Tourism.”
The cleanliness drive was led by Tourism Secretary Namoijam Kheda Varta Singh, along with Director of Tourism Khumanthem Diana Devi, Additional Director Salam Padmapati and Senior Finance Officer Khuraijam Amarjit.
The campaign received participation from several local groups and government agencies, including the Local Committee for Maintenance of Sangai Ethnic Park, volunteer organisation For Better Kangleipak, officials and staff of the Manipur Tourism Department, and personnel from Bishnupur Police.
Located in Bishnupur district, the Sangai Ethnic Park is an eco-tourism destination showcasing the traditional architecture, cultural heritage and distinctive identities of Manipur’s 34 recognised ethnic communities.
Tourism officials said efforts were underway to prepare the venue to showcase Manipur’s cultural heritage while incorporating modern and technology-driven approaches to tourism.
Following the cleanliness campaign, the Tourism Department thanked local authorities, community representatives and volunteer groups for their support in preparing and maintaining the venue ahead of the state’s World Tourism Day celebrations.
