Manipur’s rural development and panchayati raj (RD&PR) minister Thongam Biswajit Singh on Tuesday chaired a review meeting for implementation of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj schemes.
Additional chief secretary RD& PR Dr Suhel Akhtar, Deputy Commissioners(DC), District Programme Coordinators (DPC) and other officials of the department also presenr during the meeting which was held at the conference hall of his New Secretariat office in Imphal,according to officials sources available here.
During the meeting, it was decided that the concerned DC of the newly created districts will act as the DPC regarding MGNREGS (Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme) implementation,the official source added.
Manipur currently have 16 districts after 7 new districts were created in December 2016. The newly-created districts are Jiribam, Kangpokpi, Kakching, Tengnoupal, Kamjong, Pherzawl and Noney.
Earlier, the State had just nine districts, namely – Imphal West, Imphal East, Bishnupur, Thoubal, Chandel, Churachandpur, Senapati, Tamenglong and Ukhrul.
Furthermore, the Minister Biswajit also said that the district administrations of the newly created district should submit their requirements for the implementation of the scheme at the earliest and to utilise minimal staff required for implementation of the scheme in the seven new districts.
Directing the concerned officials to ensure meeting of man-days target for this year by mid-October, he also instructed the DCs to take the initiative and complete opening of bank accounts for job card holders by September.
During the meeting, implementation of various other schemes under the RD & PR department was also discussed,sources added.
