Newly appointed regular director of Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) of Manipur, Prof A Santa on Saturday said that there are lots of man power in the hospital but it lacks infrastructure.
Interacting with media after assuming charge as the regular director of the premiere medical institute of the State, A Santa also said there is a need of political pressure to convert the institute into All Indian Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).

He further said that since the institute has been functioning without a regular director for many years, several works were undertaken in a temporary basis without any long term planning.
“No decision can be taken which in turn affects the budget and the management,” he said, adding that a proper planning can be started now.
Santa further said that the institute will give emphasis mainly in improving the patient care in the intensive care unit, the operation theatre, the hospital itself and the medical college, nursing colleges as well as dental college and addition of new equipment’s for the hospital.

He went on to state that there are several other areas which needed improvement such as the conditions of the staff quarters, the roads inside the hospital, the condition of the casualty and the irregularities in staff salary.
He also added that the detailed project report of the 500-bedded super specialty hospital in the institute has been send to the Union Health Ministry and it needs the support of the masses in converting the institute into AIIMS.
Earlier on Saturday, the appointment committee of cabinet which is the highest appointment committee of the country approved Professor A Santa as the regular director of RIMS.
Notably, the institute has been functioning without a regular director since August 2014.
