The Minister tweeted that the External Affairs Ministry has given permission to safely repatriate the rescued victims of trafficking to Nepal.

In her official Twitter handle, Maneka Gandhi wrote:

‘The identity of all the trafficked children has been verified by the authorities in Imphal, in collaboration with Nepal Government officials. The trafficked children will shortly be sent back to Nepal and reunited with their families. We are ensuring their rehabilitation.

It is a matter of deep concern that young boys & girls from Nepal are being trafficked to the middle east. 147 young girls along with 32 boys from Nepal were recently intercepted in Imphal. They were allegedly being sent illegally to Dubai via Myanmar.’

These Nepalese youths were being allegedly sent to Dubai via Myanmar when they were rescued in Imphal, Moreh and other parts of Manipur.

The rescue operations conducted in Manipur early this month were the biggest rescue operation ever taken place in the region.

The Minister had ensured that the detained youths were kept in safe houses. Rehabilitation programmes were also initiated for them by her ministry.
