Manipur on Wednesday reported the first death due to COVID-19 from the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS).

The deceased is a 56-year-old man, officials informed.

RIMS superintendent Ch Arunkumar Singh said that patient who had tested positive on July 26 and he already had multiple sessions of dialysis.

He was in the hospital since May 22 and had severe kidney problems and hypertension, Singh informed.

The deceased was the resident of Khongjom Sapam village in Thoubal district.

He died in the hospital in the early hours of Wednesday,

Officials further informed that the cause of death was determined to be a severe degree of kidney failure, and the other conditions that were plaguing the patient.

Officials further said that the presence of COVID-19 exacerbated the condition leading to a catalysed death.
