A total of 36 new COVID 19 cases including a medical student of Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) were reported in the last 24 hours in Manipur, according to official sources.

“In the past 24 hours, 36 including 20 male and 16 females were confirmed as new COVID 19 cases at Viral Research and Diagnosis Laboratories of RIMS (3), Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (5), District Hospitals of Jiribam (1),Thoubal(4) and Ukhrul(23),” said Dr Kh Sasheekumar Mangang, additional director of the health department in a press release on Friday night.

They belong the districts of Bishnupur,Churachandpur,Jiribam,Thoubal and Ukhrul.

All except four persons from Thoubal district and one student of RIMS, are returnees from other states, the release said.

All necessary medical precautionary measures like containment and contact tracing are in place.

In the past 24 hours 34 persons have been discharged from COVID care centres at Meitram, RD Wing Lamphel, Senapati, Ukhrul and COVID care facilities of RIMS and JNIMS after they were found COVID 19 free on RT PCR test.

Now the cumulative number of positive cases in the state is 1,800.

The total numbers of active and recovered cases are 637 and 1163 respectively. The recovery rate is 64.61 percent.

So far a total of 3, 06,594 persons were screened at various entry points of the state while 68,554 samples were tested for COVID 19.

Altogether 56,194 have completed their quarantine while 3,856 were still at various quarantine centres in the state.
