Imphal: The abduction and killing of a 65-year-old retired government official in Manipur has sparked outrage and protests across the state.
Thokchom Ibomcha Singh, a former Settlement department officer, was allegedly abducted on June 18 from his residence in Khangabok village in Thoubal district. His bullet-ridden body was found dumped in Leishang Hiden moat near Manipur University on Sunday (June 30).

Family members believe the motive behind the killing was extortion. Thokchom Ongbi Kim, the deceased’s wife, alleged the kidnappers demanded money and tortured her husband during his captivity.
A Joint Action Committee (JAC) formed in response to the killing submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Monday. The JAC demanded the arrest of those involved and expressed outrage over the brutal crime.
Womenfolk in Khangabok village blocked National Highway 102 and other roads, demanding justice. They declared they won’t claim the remains until all those responsible are apprehended.
